Midweight linen is a versatile choice for dressmaking, offering enough structure for clean lines while remaining breathable and comfortable to wear. Most of our coloured linen fabrics are around 205 gsm, making them well suited to a wide range of dress styles, from relaxed everyday dresses to more structured designs.
Yes, linen is excellent for summer. Its breathable and absorbent nature allows air circulation, keeping you cool and wicking away moisture. A light or midweight fabric is comfortable, and an ideal choice for hot weather, providing a stylish and comfortable option for summer attire.
Our linen is stonewashed during production, which significantly reduces shrinkage and gives the fabric its soft, lived-in feel from the outset. Because of this, many sewists choose not to pre-wash before sewing. If you prefer to be extra cautious - particularly for fitted garments or if you plan to wash the finished piece regularly - a gentle pre-wash can offer added peace of mind.
As a natural fibre, linen can still shrink slightly after the first wash. Thanks to the stonewashing process, any change is usually minimal - typically around 1–2 centimetres. Washing gently in lukewarm water and avoiding high heat will help minimise further movement.

This fabric comes in a width of 145 cm (57"), and it will be cut in a single continuous piece for your convenience. To place an order, just visit the product page and click on the 'metre' option, then specify the number of metres you'd like to purchase. For instance, if you want a two-metre length of linen fabric, simply set the quantity to '2.'
